5 Stars Means Nothing

The Wing Standard Is Here to Burn the 5-Star Lie to the Ground
Let’s talk about the 5-star rating system. You know it. You probably use it. But here’s the truth: it’s broken. Uber starts you at 5 stars. That’s not excellence—that’s survival. It’s the participation trophy of feedback. And it’s everywhere: restaurants, apps, delivery services. The problem? It doesn’t tell you anything real.
At The Wing Standard, we’re not here to play nice. We’re here to judge wings like they deserve to be judged. Our system doesn’t start at perfection. It starts at zero and earns its way up to 30 points. Most wings don’t even crack 18. That’s the bar. That’s the standard.
The Breakdown: Structure, Sauce, Spice
We divide our scoring into three segments:
1. Structure (10 points)
It’s all about the cook and consistency. Is the wing crispy without being dry? Is it meaty without being greasy? Does it hold up from first bite to last? Presentation matters, but execution is king.
2. Sauce (10 points)
Flavor, balance, and coverage. Is the sauce clinging to the wing or sliding off like regret? Is it bold or bland? We’re not here for watered-down buffalo or mystery glazes.
3. Spice (10 points)
This isn’t about heat. It’s about honesty. If you say "garlic parmesan," we better taste garlic. If you promise "traditional buffalo," it better not taste like ketchup. Spice is the execution of the recipe’s promise.
Why This Matters
We’re tired of inflated ratings and vague praise. "Pretty good" doesn’t cut it. We want accountability in flavor. We want consistency in quality. And we want wing joints to stop hiding behind popularity and start delivering on their claims.
Calling Out the Industry
Yelp thinks a 3.5-star wing is "fine." We think it’s a culinary misdemeanor. Instagram likes don’t mean your wings are good. They mean your lighting is. We’re not here for aesthetics. We’re here for taste.
The Wing Standard Movement
This is more than a rating system. It’s a revolution. We’re setting the bar higher than "just okay." We’re challenging wing joints to step up. And we’re inviting you to join us.
